Day 1 Dyea to Canyon City
We hit the trail finally at 9:30 am.  It was so good to get going.  The trail starts going up hill over a pretty rocky trail for the first mile. It didn’t take long for Dianne to zip off the pant legs and they never were zipped back on.
After that the trail get great or a while, both wide open flat trail and about 1/4 mile of boardwalk through the swamp.
We stopped at Finnegan’s Camp for lunch.  We spent about an hour looking around and eating in the cooking shelter.  The weather had been great mostly sunny, about 75 degrees F.
We stopped for a break at a great napping log.  No sooner than Merlan got his feet up we felt rain drops.  Then a rare occurrence - thunder and lighting.
We arrived at camp and set our tent up along the river.  The rain seemed to stop and the sun came out for a bit.
It was nice so we cooked outside the shelter.
